Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V now available in the UK
The latest addition to the Sony Ericsson line of Xperia phones, the Xperia Neo V, is now available in the UK for £249.99 ($395) off contract.
Showing up on Sony Ericsson's offical site, the new version of the original Neo is a steal at that price. Remember too, that Sony Ericsson have already come out and said that all their 2011 Xperia phones will be receiving an update to Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Neo V also comes with the 3D sweep panorama photo mode first seen on the Arc S, along with their Facebook inside Xperia integration and access to the Sony Entertainment Network.

Google Voice Search learns Latin American Spanish, Indonesian, and Malaysian
Google's official blog post offers some interesting insights into the process of collecting and analyzing the speech data needed to expand support. Thousands of hours were spent gathering voice samples and choosing key regional accents to analyze, and International Program Manager Linne Ha is clearly very appreciative of the Google users who helped the company complete the expansion. Without an enthusiastic base of users to lend a hand, Google Voice Search's polyglot powers would have been nearly impossible to deliver.

Zen Coding high-speed HTML shorthand plug-in updated
Here are some of the goodies version 0.7 brings to the party:
- Text nodes: Writing something like a[href=/]{Click here} now works, and puts "Click here" within the link.
- New actions added: Increment/decrement number under cursor, evaluate math expressions, and more.
- Wrap with Abbreviation was upgraded.
Zen Coding has official implementations for a ton of editors, including TextMate, Apatana, Coda, E2, Komodo, Notepad++, PSPad, and more. It also has unofficial builds for Vim, UltraEdit, Visual Studio and more.
If you want to play with Zen Coding without installing it, you can use the online demo to see some of its magic in action.

IE9 and Firefox 4 post top marks in Web browser power use comparison
A baseline was determined with test systems sitting idle, and then browsers were pointed at about:blank, a news site, the HTML5 Galactic demo, and the IE9 fish tank demo. Perhaps unsurprisingly, IE9 came out on top -- though Firefox 4 was a very close second on nearly every test. As you can see, the other browsers didn't necessarily fare quite as well, with Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera all posting significantly worse scores. In Opera 11's case, a laptop battery would last over one hour more with Internet Explorer 9 installed.
But what we'd really like to know is where did Microsoft find the dilithium crystals required to run a Galactic Total Power Consumption test...

Color vulnerable to simple GPS hack, lets you spy on anyone, anywhere
Of course, such a hack isn't illegal as such -- every photo you take with Color is public. With FakeLocation you are simply circumventing Color's very limited location-oriented security mechanism. It does undermine Color's usefulness (and uniqueness), though -- if nefarious types can sit in their bedroom or basement and eavesdrop on classy dinner parties and wild night club soirees, people might be less inclined to share personal photos with those around them.
Fortunately, both for Color and its users, this is an easy security hole to plug -- at least in the short term. The app (or server-side) code simply checks to see if the user has 'teleported' an impossibly large distance, without any intermediate steps in between. In the long term, though, Color's users must be aware that its social graph is completely public. Color's users must realize that every photo they upload is visible by anyone, from any place.
After the break, just to elucidate a little on Color's actual business model and ultimate intention, we have two amazing quotes from Bill Nguyen, Color's founder.

Sprint axes unlimited data for all mobile broadband plans and mobile hotspot
We already knew that Sprint was killing off unlimited data for the hotspot plan, but today's news makes everything all official. Starting in November, users with a mobile broadband plan (that would be a tablet, netbook, USB card, connection card or mobile hotspot device) as well as folks using the mobile hotspot plan on their smartphone will no longer have unlimited data. Depending on your existing plan, you'll be placed in a tier that goes between 3GB and 10GB of data, with a $0.05 per MB overage in-network, and a $0.25 per MB overage while roaming.
Note that this does not affect unlimited data for smartphones. Your Epic 4G Touch or EVO 3D will still have unlimited data. It's still a direction we hate to see yet another carrier travel, though. Resist the temptation Dan. Don't kill your unlimited smartphone plans.

Microsoft releases sexy Bing app for iPad
Just as a regular search on bing.com will, the Bing app for iPad tailors the results it displays based on what you're searching for. There are loads of custom views, covering everything from movies and maps to weather and shopping. The app also offers a heads-up display of currently trending searches, complete with related images, which is an iPad-exclusive feature.
Navigation is a breeze thanks to multitouch controls, allowing users to flick or swipe through results. And while the development team refers to the app as "touch and decide," Bing Voice Search is also built in -- making it easy to start a query without using the iPad's on-screen keyboard.
The Bing app for iPad is available for download now from the App Store.
