How to change someone's Snapchat display name

Snapchat may not allow you to change your actual username, but it does let people change their display names.

If you use Snapchat regularly and have lots of friends, display names can quickly become a mess. While some people use their regular names like good social citizens, others feel the need to change them to non-descriptive nicknames that can create confusion over who is actually sending you a snap. If you prefer order in your Snapchat universe, you can easily override their chosen display name in favor of one of your own creation. Here's how!

How to change the display name for one of your Snapchat friends

  1. Launch the Snapchat app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on the Snapchat icon at the top or just swipe down.
  3. Tap on My Friends.
  4. Tap on the friend's name you'd like to change.
  5. Tap on the settings icon that appears next to their name off to the right.
  6. Tap on Edit Name in the popup menu.
  7. Type in the name you'd like to appear when this person communicates with you.
  8. Tap Save.
  9. They will now show up as what you've chosen.

Loop Magazine goes all in on Apple Watch

Jim Dalrymple has put together a special edition of The Loop Magazine focused completely on the Apple Watch.

Both Peter Cohen and I have pieces in it, as do many others. If you're interested in the Apple Watch, and if you're reading this, you likely are, you owe it to yourself to check out the issue. From The Loop

The latest issue of The Loop Magazine is available on the App Store for both iPhone and iPad. I took a different approach with this issue, focusing entirely on Apple's forthcoming Apple Watch. You can download the app free and preview each of the articles at no cost. You can purchase a monthly subscription, and get access to all issues for just $1.99 a month. You can also purchase a single issue for $1.99.

For more information, check out the table of contents or, better yet, just download the app and start reading.

GNOME 3.16 is here with reimagined notifications and visual upgrades galore

The final version of GNOME 3.16 is here, and this is no mere bug fix release.

The latest version of the GNOME desktop offers a revamped notification system along with visual improvements, updated applications, and a trio of new application previews. In total, GNOME 3.16 includes a whopping 33,525 changes made by over one thousand people.

If you haven’t given GNOME a try in a while, you should. GNOME and the GNOME Shell desktop interface have improved dramatically from the initial GNOME 3.0 releases.

Notifications redesigned

The latest version of GNOME offers a revamped notification system. Notification banners now appear more to the center of the screen under the top bar, making them more noticeable and less likely to interfere with applications while you’re using them. Those notification pop-ups are still actionable, so you can click them to take the default action or click the buttons on them to perform other actions.
